Le Weekend

How in the world is it Monday again? I hope you had an excellent weekend. John was snowboarding in Geneva (don't worry, I was invited, but I hate snowsports! Yes, I know ...) so I made plans with friends, did boring chores around the house, and dug out my extensive collection of Essie nail polishes ... which is my default hobby when John's away.

I spent a lovely Saturday morning shopping in Covent Garden with my friend Natalie and this colorful, Mondrian-inspired box clutch from Aldo caught my eye:

At £50, it wasn't an instant buy for me, but I just love it!

And then there were these fun shoes at H&M, which I snapped a picture of and sent to Udita (since that's how we tend to greet each other in emails):

While Natalie was buying a cleanser at Aesop, I snapped a photo of their shop floor and submitted it to the Instagram account @ihavethisthingwithfloors - do you follow them? It's basically pictures of beautiful floors (and people with beautiful shoes, incidentally).

I'm not sure mine qualified as either, but I loved the sea-green color of the tiles, and the geometric sunburst pattern as well.

We walked through St. James' Park and watched the pelicans being fed ...

I was right in there with the tourists, snapping away on my phone! No shame. They gulp those fish down all-in-one like nobody's business! Have you been to St. James' Park? It's beautiful - and all the daffodils are out right now.

And unbeknownst to Natalie, I'd booked the Royal Afternoon Tea at St. James' Court Hotel as a treat for both of us!

It was Mother's Day on Sunday here in the UK, so it was nearly impossible to find any hotels or restaurants that had any places left for afternoon tea. But I perservered and St. James' Court turned out to be perfect: instead of sitting at tables in the dining room (which sometimes feels a little stilted/formal), we sat in the comfiest of armchairs near the Hamptons Bar ... and chatted away the afternoon. By the time I'd looked down at my watch, it was 5:00 p.m. and we were stuffed!

On our way to Victoria tube station, Natalie took me past the flat she used to live in as a student at UCL.

It's the flat in the upper left hand corner - the one with the green turret! Isn't that incredible? Imagine living there as a student! I'd feel like a princess (and probably a pauper, too).

So that was my weekend. The sky wasn't blue, the sun wasn't out, but I still loved every minute of it.

What did you get up to? Tell me!

  1. I'm not allowed in Aesop or I buy alllllll the things! And that clutch! Love it.
I met some other foodie bloggers for brunch in Hackney and then went to a bath bomb making blogger event. Met so many lovely people I have only ever known through Twitter - it was so much fun!

    1. Charlie - doesn't that place smell incredible? Your weekend sounded great. Bath bombs are the best. I love meeting Twitter people IRL ... speaking of which, I hope to meet you at some point soon! xo

  2. Those floor tiles are super cool, and OMG PELICANS. I've never been to St. James Park, but now I'm sure I'll visit soon. When do the feedings happen?

I spent my weekend being a cave troll: writing, job-hunting, and watching Netflix. I did go out on Friday though, to the Whitechapel Gallery, Dirty Dick's pub (meh), and to see The Nether (which was wonderful -- but I don't think I'll write about it b/c the subject matter might be a little much for some folks...). I also spent hours in Waterstones, but... that's just normal. Your weekend sounds like fun! I STILL haven't done Afternoon Tea in London yet... I'm going to fix that soon.

    1. Hey Gianni - yes, you should pop by the park when the weather's a little better! I don't know when the feedings actually happen ... I think we just stumbled upon this, but maybe it's on the Park's website?

Being a cave troll is one of my favorite activities, all day, every day. I think I could be a professional cave troll. Have you watched Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix yet? I was trying to explain it to my dad last night and he just wasn't really buying it, ha! I thought it was so funny though (even if I had some issues with race throughout ... but I'll never write about that on here, more like save it for a side convo somewhere else).

There are lots of delightful places in London for Afternoon Tea - if you subscribe to the Emerald Street email newsletter, they're doing their 2 for 1 tea offer now, I think! It's worth looking up. :)

  3. My weekend consisted of choosing some Pandora earrings for a Mother's day gift, sending the boys off to the football (and using the time on my own to scrapbook), taking The Boy Child to a gaming party for 8-year-olds and then hanging out with the host's parents, a swimming lesson, a slightly over-cooked roast lamb dinner and drooling over Aidan Turner in Poldark! Rock and roll, wouldn't you say, rock and roll!

    1. SO rock 'n rool, Ruth! :) I need to get on to Poldark ... everyone's talking about it over on Twitter and I'm completely clueless!

Choosing earrings from Pandora sounded fun, though - which ones did you go for?

    1. Oh, FINALLY, someone who agrees with me! I mean, the cold, the falling on your butt/face (haha - buttface), the expensive rental and lift tickets ... it is just so not enjoyable to me!

    2. Totally! I'd rather drink hot chocolate and just wear the warm snowsuit, but then that kind of defeats the entire point. Even thinking about skiing, etc. makes my toes cold. I'm more of a beach/anywhere else gal.

  5. I could have popped by to say, I live around the corner :)

  6. This looks like the most fun weekend! Give me a drawer full of Essie over skiing any day.

Also, that clutch! That clutch! I wish I lived a life where it was possible to actually use clutches and not just hoard them in my wardrobe. One day.

    1. Muahahahah - YESSS ... another non-skier in my midst!

Seriously, I don't know what I can fit into that clutch (i.e. nothing - maybe a stick of gum), but I still want it.

    1. Aw, thanks, Sarah Elizabeth - it was a fun weekend. I love easy, relaxed weekends where you can just wander and do what you feel like doing, rather than rushing around like it's a work day! xo

  8. Your weekend sounds wonderful! If I lived in London I would be such a sucker for going to watch the pelicans being fed - especially now that parks are full of flowers in bloom!

Your friend's old flat is INCREDIBLE. Whoa. What a beautiful and distinct building to have lived in. It definitely beats most of the grotty boxes my friends lived in while we were at university!

    1. Hi Charlene! It was a lovely weekend, thank you! Haha ... I always forget how nice it is to be a tourist in my own city. I'm so busy during the week in my "bubble", getting from point A to point B, that I often forget to stop and smell the roses (or watch the pelicans being fed) - literally! I am sure you see some lovely scenes where you are as well, though.

And, isn't Natalie's old flat amazing?! It is in such a pretty part of Pimlico. I couldn't imagine going to university in London, let alone living in a place like that.

Thanks for stopping by to read xo
