Sunday Roast

Sunday is roast day.  Walk into (almost) any pub on a Sunday afternoon and you'll find yourself faced with a (usually) mouth-watering choice of roast beef, lamb or chicken and a side of potatoes, parsnips and veg.  Add a few friends, a glass of wine and you've got a fantastic way to beat the Sunday blues  (add a dessert and you just might find yourself comatose on the sofa afterwards).

Let's make one thing clear:  I don't cook (much).  I bake, I make risotto and occasionally, a tuna pasta casserole.  That's not cooking.  John cooks.  And he's particularly good at making roasts.  Case in point, tonight's dinner:

He takes it very seriously.  The meat he purchases from a local butcher on Warwick Avenue (Sheepdrove Organic Farm).  This particular bird is from Daylesford Organic in Notting Hill.  And he insists on making his own gravy from the juices of the bird, vegetable stock (from the actual veg that's been boiled, not an XO cube, which is what I'd probably resort to), and double 00 flour (eye roll).  Needless to say, the results are pretty tasty (who am I kidding - it's amazing).

One day I'll pluck up the courage to make my own roast.  Until then ... I'll leave it to you-know-who.
